Wal Mart sux | ||
|
Every where i go their is a Wal Mart and I think their are way to many. Personally i know that Wal Mart should be shut down due to child labor laws b/c basically all of the stuff in their is made by little kids! I think thats ridiculous!!! i basically never shop their unless i really have too! And if they do build a gay Wal Mart, i hope it is haunted or has lots of problems and has to be shut down. !!!! bur that's just me..

old pics | ||
|
BTW if anyone has any, I'm trying to find old pics of Dixmont before or right after it was closed, from inside or outside. I'm also looking for pics of the sign that used to be at the intersection of 65 and Tom's Run. If anyone has any please e-mail them to dixmontstatehospital@yahoo.com I'm thinking about making a website or photography book about the hospital. I've already collected several pics from people from after it was closed but if you have any that are particularly interesting I would like those as well. I'm not looking for pics of "orbs" because they are actually reflections of the flash of the camera off asbestos dust.

Dr. Huntington,
If you want to see old pictures of Dixmont, I suggest that you go down to the History Center in the strip district on Smallman Street. They have a ton of old pictures of Dixmont-it would take you days just to get through them all. Tim |

Dixmont tunnels | ||
|
My boyfriend and me went through the tunnels and found some beautiful artwork on the walls. When we were leaving around 2:00 AM we were chased by some drunk guys that said they were friends of Tim. When we got to our truck the cops asked us questions. We said we were friends of Tim and they said OK.

family | ||

Tim or anyone else:
I have also been doing some family history research like many others have stated. My great grandmother was at Dixmont and under very suspicious circumstances. There are some unanswered questions in my family that may be clairfied with medical records and such from my great grandmothers time at the facility. I currently work in the mental health field and am very interested in not only my family history with Dixmont, but the hospital's history as well. If anyone knows any way to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Princess_279@hotmail.com |

dixmont experience | ||

before i left pa to go into the military i visited dixmont a few times and i'd have to say i really love that place but anyway let me tell you about one of my many experiences at dixmont one morning me and a few frienda decided to go up we figured hey will get to know are way around so when we come back at night we wont get lost so we brought a video camera with us and we started to explore what we found was pretty crazy first if you've ever been to dixmont you might know what i'm talkin about if walk in between the back of the hospital and the auditorium and you look to your right under the second catwalk ther is like a place where it looks like semi trucks drop off stuff well in the back of that space there is a room in the very back right corner and the door is locked but the big window in the front of the door is broke well anyway it was about 90 degrees out and in the room it was freezing ind the corner was a misty figure of a person just standing there waching us thn when we noticed it and pointed at it it came at us slowely and went down the hall when we got back home and played the video tape in slow motion you could see a persons face it was pretty crazy if anyone has any stories about dixmont or woukd like to here some more i'm willing to tell email me at justinjmorrow@yahoo.com

Tim Get back to me on this
|
This is for Tim and all the Dixmont fans. I want to say that Dixmont is a nice place and nothing strange there except your mind playing tricks on you. Anyways we were up there just today 1-25-03 and talked to the asst. security officer and we also talked to the guy in the little house and he said that we just have to sign a waiver that said if we get hurt its not there fault which was fine. but we walked in the buildings started in the tunnels but we didnt go in there. All you have to do is ask if you can go look and they will let you. Just dont be a jerk off and mess things up. But i just want Tim to e mail me back on some of the stuff there SlimShady211@aol.com Also if any one is interested in going there soon just e mail me and we will set something up.

RE: Slim Shady | ||

I just wanted to clear up some info about the previous post. We used to allow people onto the Dixmont property to take photos etc. Because of the current agreement with the development company, we are no longer allowed to do this and the no trespassing signs are strictly enforced. If you would like to see pictures of the remaining buildings at Dixmont, you can visit the rawfear.com discussion board.

About Dixmont | ||
|
I just wrote on here that they just let you up in Dixmont i was kind of stupid when i said that they dont just let anyone up there you could get in trouble if they dont let you i also want to appolgize to TIM about saying that so all the fans out there you might not be allowed to go so dont get your hopes up. Just make sure you get permission first and make sure its ok from everyone that you can go up there. I appolgize to people for saying that and like i said just dont be a jerk off and spray paint the walls of break things up there its a real nice place to see and be there. Well just wanted to say sorry to tim and everyone else. Have fun

I just wanted to clear up the previous post...Dixmont is Private Property and no trespassing is permitted. There is a new night watch security guard that was recently hired. We do not grant permission to enter the property.

Dixmont State Hospital Saving
|
i am fully against tearing down this lifetime of an achievement. this building has been a landmark that has intrigued people like myself and i have not been in the real vicinity of the place however one my brother has had a chance to tour the facility and take very interesting pictures. i myself am truly against the tearing down of a building that poses no harm and has potneial for historical standing. wal marts are also everywhere. there is real no reason besides that fact that it would be another place to shop and be another place for people to be but the fact of the matter is, is that it would not be that hard to go somewhere else to shop!

Marc,
You ought to go see the site and buildings for yorself. They are far beyond repair. A fire gutted the middle of the main building, there are no windows, and they have lead paint and asbestos all through them. Your idea is an impossibility. |

Re: Dixmont State Hospital Saving

I have just come across this board today and have been sitting here reading the posts that have been made. I dont feel that there is much that can be done to save the site from demolition. Especially if it is a Wal Mart that is rolling in. Dixmont has been there forever and it should remain there. Some feel that there is no longer any paranormal activity existing around the old hospital. I have never been there and at this time dont have the desire to go, but there has to be something still lingering. I am a true believer in paranormal activity. I was wondering if anyone has been to the site to check this out?

walmart... | ||
|
Just today, my friend and I drove around the roads that we legally could drive on near Dixmont, and I can't imaging a Walmart there. Infact, I can't imagine anything there. Yes, the building looks like its beyond repair, but why add an ugly walmart? At least if the building is going to be torn down, why not turn it into a memorial park dedicated to the people who died there and the professionals that worked there? Better yet, why not dedicate it to the woman who started Dixmont? Instead of constructing another consumer driven corporation to sell us junk, lets construct something that will teach future generations about the disappearing past...
Kilbuck doesnt seem to be a desolate area that needs the business of walmart to survive. There is a walmart near by in cranberry, and theres also a super kmart (or whatever that thing is) fifteen minutes away on mcknight road. Infact, walmart was turned down for cunstruction buy the district that takes care of mcknight road because its not needed. There is enough merchandise to buy in western pennsylvania... why add to the clutter? People say that rap music and violent vidoe games ruin this nation's youth... well then what are we teaching them by taking our past and putting a walmart there? People lived, worked, and died there. That asylum was someone's dream of providing treatment to the mentally ill. I personally think thats a shame that anyone would sell that property to walmart with that in mind. |
