The Dixmont buildings are junk-there is no way to restore them. As for your other ideas such as a memorial park, that simply would not happen. The current owners bought the property from the state for a significant amount of money and a park would provide absolutely no return on thier investment. Also, you said Kilbuck doesn't need any development-that simply is not true. They have one of the highest tax millage in the state. The Walmart will significantly lower the taxes for the residents there without adding any children to the school system. As for the other Wal Marts in Cranberry etc., they are over capacitized. This means that the Wal Mart in Cranberry and Robinson can't handle the amount of customers coming to the stores and Kilbuck is directly between both stores. It will take customers from both stores and those that are in the local communities to relieve the over-capacity issues. Finally, I feel that it's the state's fault for not taking care of the buildings after the hospital closed down. They simply allowed the buildings to rot. Had they been taken care of, they probably would have been resored. Unfortunately, the buildings are falling down and full of hazardus materials. Because of this, the current owners have no other choice but to tear them down.
